Family FAQ

1. Should children learn skiing or snowboarding first?

When children learn to ski, skiing (twin skis) is usually easier to pick up and helps them find balance more quickly.
However, this is not absolute, and nowadays many children start directly with snowboarding.
Most importantly,as long as the child feels happy and enjoys the skiing process, that is the best possible start.

2. How to choose a ski resort suitable for families?

The key to a successful parent-child skiing experience is choosing the right ski resort. The following factors can help you evaluate whether a resort is suitable for families.

  • Ski Resort Facilities & Language Support
Choosing a ski resort with dedicated children’s facilities and Chinese- or English-speaking instructors can greatly reduce language barriers and adaptation stress.
Resorts such as Iwappara (Echigo-Yuzawa), Nakazato (Echigo-Yuzawa), and Naeba offer family-friendly skiing environments.
  • Beginner-Friendly & Dedicated Children’s Areas
Check whether the ski resort offers facilities such as children-only magic carpets and childcare centers.
This allows children to learn skiing in a safe and simple environment, while parents can enjoy their own time on the slopes with peace of mind.
3. At what age can children start learning to ski?
  • Under 4 years old
Due to insufficient muscle strength and control, and for safety reasons, we currently do not offer lesson services.
  • Ages 4–7
We strongly recommend one-on-one instructor lessons for this age group.
  • Exclusive one-on-one lessons to ensure safety and focused learning.
  • Ages 8–11
If attending the class together with parents, the lesson pace will still be based on the child’s learning progress. Parents should cooperate with the instructor’s flexible arrangements.
  • Ages 12 and above
Considered adult learners and may attend classes together with other adults.
4. Can adults and children attend classes together?
  • In principle, attending the same class is possible, but for safety and learning effectiveness, we recommend taking lessons separately. When an instructor teaches both adults and children at the same time, attention naturally focuses more on the children, and the lesson pace is primarily based on the children’s progress.
  • Adults and children have very different learning styles and paces. If they attend classes separately, both can have a better learning experience.
  • Special Note: For children under 7 years old, we recommend one-on-one instruction. We can assist in arranging lessons for adults and children at the same time and at the same ski resort, allowing children to feel reassured by seeing their parents, and giving parents greater peace of mind as well.
(Parent-child joint lessons require confirmation with official customer support.)
5. What should you pay attention to when taking children skiing?
  • Be on Time
Please arrive at the ski resort at the scheduled time to avoid delaying the lesson安排.
  • Personal Items
We recommend preparing small snacks, tissues, and heat packs. If needed, the instructor can assist children in using them during the lesson.
  • Contact Information
Parents are required to provide a phone number or messaging contact that can be reached at any time to ensure immediate communication in case of unexpected situations.
  • Maintain Good Communication with the Coach
Please inform the coach of your child’s habits in advance so the coach can better understand the child and guide learning in the most appropriate way.

For example:

  • Do I need a lunch break?
  • Special interests (favorite cartoon characters, etc.)
  • Dietary habits or dietary restrictions
6. Children's skiing class grouping system?
  • Parent–Child Class(Parents and Children in the Same Class):
Suitable for older children (approximately 8–12 years and above) with sufficient comprehension and attention.
  • One-on-One Lessons for Children
Suitable for children under the age of 8 or those with limited attention spans, allowing the coach to focus on one child at a time to ensure safety.
7. Suggestions for Family Itinerary Planning?
  • Day Trip:Children attend lessons in the morning while parents ski freely; the family meets for lunch, followed by hot springs or light skiing in the afternoon.
  • Multi-Day Trip:Can be arranged as “one day of lessons plus one day of free skiing,” with the final day planned for relaxed activities or shopping.
  • Parent Rotation Mode:If the child is young or lacks sufficient stamina, parents can take turns skiing and accompanying the child.
